Yellow-browed Warbler at St Clement, Truro

I took this shot today of the Yellow-browed Warbler at St Clements, Truro.  Its been present here for three weeks and seems content feeding around the willows.  It was calling a lot today as well.  Two Firecrest and three Chiffchaff, plus a real pale grey Chiffchaff are also still present.

In addition this morning at Pendower, I saw a drake Velvet Scoter, Common Scoter, 8 Black-throated Diver, 9 Great Northern Diver, 1 Red necked Grebe and 2 Slavonian Grebe.

Yellow-browed Warbler at St. Clement, Truro

Richard Augarde found this Yellow-browed Warbler in the damp sallows 200m south of Tresemple Pool. I saw it yesterday evening along with six Chiffy's and one very pale Chiffchaff.  The exceptionally mild winter has probably helped around half a dozen or so Yellow-browed's overwinter in the county.

Yellow-browed Warbler at Carnon Downs

I took this shot today of the resident Yellow-browed Warbler at Carnon Downs sewerage works.  It was calling all the time so not difficult to find.  This one has been ringed on the right leg and has been seen with at least two other birds. Another dozen or so Chiffy's were also present along with a couple greyer individuals.  The Chiffchaffs were singing and I was hoping that the Yellow-browed would start, but no such luck.

Second attempt at the Nanquidno Yellow-browed Warbler

I couldn't resist second helpings of this delightful little phylosc. It kept returning to the same crab-apple tree in Nanquidno valley. Today it performed at the front of the tree instead of at the back, as was the case yesterday. I also used the 600mm lens which has made a big difference to the final image.

Yesterday I also used the wrong White Balance mode...Auto is just not good enough so reverted back to the Cloudy setting. The result is a bright contrasty image with no post adjustments required.

The image below is cropped at 25%. The others are the standard 16% crop as dictated by the software. The only adjustments are some minor cropping at the edges to give a more pleasing image-composure.
This image below is one of the favourite shots. It spotted an insect and I had a feeling it would fly after it. The camera couldn't keep up with the speed of flight though as the next shot was completely blurred.

Yellow-browed Warbler at Nanquidno

Today's Yellow-browed was the main attraction in west Cornwall, which goes some way to explain how quiet it still is. Once again, most parts of the UK seem to be swimming in BB rares except Cornwall ! Hopefully our luck will turn soon.

About twenty birders assembled to watch this illusive and very active bird as it fed in the crab apple tree.
